On September 10, 2015, the Navy published in the Federal Register a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed aircraft transition at NAS Oceana. During development of the EIS, the Navy’s analysis showed no significant impacts. This is because F/A‑18E/F Super Hornet flight training is nearly identical to F/A‑18A/C/D Hornet flight training. There would be little to no change to the type and quantity of flight training operations at NAS Oceana and NALF Fentress as a result of this proposed transition. For noise exposure, day-night average sound level would increase by approximately 1 decibel and would not likely be noticeable and therefore not significant. Therefore, the Navy has redesignated the EIS as an Environmental Assessment (EA).
